Free & Confidential Rapid HIV Testing

World AIDS Day is observed on December 1 each year and is an opportunity for people worldwide to unite in the fight against HIV, show their support for people living with HIV, and commemorate people who have died. More than 1.2 million people in United States are living with HIV and nearly one in eight of them does not know it. The only way to know for sure whether you have HIV is to get tested. World AIDS Day is a global initiative to raise awareness, fight prejudice, and improve education about HIV and AIDS. The 2016 theme is “Leadership, Commitment, Impact.”

The Coastal Health District Prevention Program will offer free and confidential rapid HIV testing from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Thursday, December 1, at the  Chatham County Health Department located at 1395 Eisenhower Drive in Savannah.

Whether you are actively dating or in a committed relationship, you can take these simple, effective steps to help prevent HIV infection for you and your partner:
• Use condoms every time you have sex.
• Get an HIV test, which is free and confidential.
• Be monogamous.
• Do not abuse alcohol or drugs.
• Talk to your doctor about pre-exposure prophylaxis (PrEP) or post-exposure prophylaxis (PEP) if you think you are at risk for HIV.

Pre-Exposure Prophylaxis (PrEP)

PrEP stands for Pre-Exposure Prophylaxis. PrEP is a way for people who don’t have HIV but who are at very high risk of getting it to prevent HIV infection by taking a pill every day. The pill contains two medicines that are also used to treat HIV. If you take PrEP and are exposed to HIV through sex or injection drug use, these medicines can work to keep the virus from taking hold in your body.

PrEP is a powerful HIV prevention tool and can be combined with condoms and other prevention methods to provide even greater protection than when used alone. But people who use PrEP must commit to taking the drug every day and seeing their health care provider for follow-up every three months.

Call 912-414-4962 or click HERE to get more information on our PrEP Services.

Sexually Transmitted Infections

About 1 in 5 people in the US have a sexually transmitted infection. Left untreated, STIs can lead to serious health issues, affect fertility, and be passed along to partners. Many infections don’t cause any symptoms, so the only way to know for sure is to get tested.

The good news is that all STIs can be treated, and most can be cured. Testing is the first step. Some of the infections evaluated at public health departments include syphilis, chlamydia, gonorrhea, HIV, herpes and HPV. If you test positive, our health departments can assist with treatment and can also lower your risk of passing an infection to your partner.

Click the link below to learn more about the Coastal Health District’s STI testing and treatment program. The sooner you get tested, the sooner you can take action to protect your health and the health of your partner.

Pregnancy Prevention/Contraception

If you do not want to get pregnant, not having sex is the best protection. If you do have sex, birth control – or contraception – can be used to prevent unwanted pregnancies.
We offer many types of birth control.

More about Long-Acting Reversible Contraception

Long-acting reversible contraception (LARC) provide long-term birth control. LARCs include intrauterine devices (IUD) and contraceptive implants.  LARCs are very effective at preventing pregnancy and can be removed at any time

Affordable Pricing

We believe everyone should have access to family planning services that meet both their lifestyle and budgetary needs. Our goal is to provide family planning services at the lowest cost possible which is why patients over the age of 18 must provide verification of income (W-2 form, current tax return, current paycheck and/or paycheck stubs for one month, unemployment/Dept. of Labor compensation notice or check stub, notarized statement of income from employer on letterhead, WIC or SNAP approval letter including family size and income) so that we can determine fair and affordable fees for services provided.  Without verification of income, patients may be asked to pay the full amount for services they receive.

Family planning services are free for teens 18 and under and condoms are always free at all health departments.

Patients seeking Women’s Health services should be prepared to present a photo ID (state issued driver’s license, government ID, or student ID), and proof of income* and will be expected pay some fees for services.
