Ditch the Vape

E-cigarettes, also known as vapes, are unsafe for everyone, and especially dangerous for young people.

Most e-cigarettes contain nicotine, which is highly addictive and can harm adolescent brain development through a person’s early to mid-20s. E-cigarettes can also contain other harmful substances besides just nicotine.

Additionally, studies show that e-cigarettes may actually encourage cigarette smoking in adolescents. Teens using e-cigarettes are at greater risk for smoking cigarettes in the future. In addition, there is not enough evidence to support effectiveness for e-cigarettes as a smoking cessation aid.

“Any tobacco product use, including e-cigarettes, is unsafe for youth. Nicotine can harm the developing adolescent brain. We must do everything we can to reduce the use of e-cigarettes among middle and high school students.”
Robert R. Redfield, MD, CDC Director, September 2019

What are E-cigarettes?
E-cigarettes are also known as e-cigs, e-vaporizers, electronic nicotine delivery devices (ENDs), e-hookah, hookah pens, vapes, vape pens, mods). They have four components: 1) cartridge/reservoir, 2) heating element, 3) power source (usually a battery), 4) mouthpiece. E-liquid or e-juice in the cartridges contain varying amounts of nicotine, flavorings & other chemicals.

Vaping: What’s the Bottom Line?

Results from 2018 National Youth Tobacco Survey show dramatic increase in e-cigarette use among youth over past year

This Is Quitting

This is Quitting is a free and anonymous text messaging program from Truth Initiative designed to help young people quit vaping. The first-of-its-kind quit program incorporates messages from other young people like them who have attempted to, or successfully quit, e-cigarettes. Our messages show the real side of quitting, both the good and the bad, to help young people feel motivated, inspired and supported throughout their quitting process. We also send young people evidence-based tips and strategies to quit and stay quit. This is Quitting is tailored based on age (within 13 to 24 years old) and product usage to give teens and young adults appropriate recommendations about quitting.

Teens and young adults can join for free by texting DITCHVAPE to 88709
