Environmental Health inspects these facilities and trains staff to minimize illnesses and injuries associated with contaminated or hazardous conditions in or around swimming pools.

The Certified Pool Operator (CPO) course is available for the public and environmentalists. The CPO certification program requires participation in a two-day class taught by a certified instructor. The program includes pool and spa chemistry, testing, filtration automatic feeding equipment, and government requirements. CPO certification is valid for five years.
