Well Water Testing Service in Chatham County

If your drinking water is supplied by a private well, it is important to have the well tested annually for bacteria that may be hazardous to your health. The Chatham County Health Department’s environmental health office offers non-certified well water testing to ensure your drinking water is free from coliform and E. coli bacteria.

When Should I Have My Water Tested?

Residents who use private wells for drinking water should have the water tested annually. However, well owners should also seek additional testing if:

• You notice a change in your water’s appearance, smell or taste,
• You encounter problems like a broken well cap,
• Your well has been flooded,
• You find anything that may contaminate your well,
• Visitors, or anyone who does not regularly use your well, experience illness after drinking from your well, or
• An infant is using your well.
